Weekend Recap

Top of the morning to ya!  I don't know about you, but I had one fabulous weekend. The family all piled into the lakehouse to celebrate our parents' birthdays. The kids cooked all the food, and I have to say-we did a pretty good job.

It takes close to 3 hours to get from Atlanta to Lake Martin, so I spent Saturday early morning in the car. I've learned  that there are several road trip essentials that should be at an arm length for a quick grab. My essentials: Lara Bar (in case I get hungry...fast food is so gross and I'm the type that likes to get on the road and go without stopping) & lots of good tunes (I use Spotify and also have a few CD's...I know-an actual CD!)
There really isn't anything like a Saturday morning car ride with the sun pouring in! PS, I LOVE this Old Navy Vest. It is perfect for fall weather. I wore this over a big ole long sleeve t shirt with some leggings and Uggs-perfect Road Trip attire, if you ask me.

I made a FANTASTIC Buffalo Chicken Dip and served it in a breadbowl. This was SUCH a hit. Ladies, if you are challenged in the culinary department like I am, THIS is a recipe that you can handle and it is quite the crowd pleaser.

Buffalo Chicken Dip
2 cans white meat chicken
2 blocks of cream cheese
3/4 cup Buffalo Sauce
1/2 pack Ranch dip seasoning mix
1 cup shredded Cheddar Cheese
1 loaf Italian Bread

Mix all ingredients in a large bowl and mix well with a hand mixer. Bake in a baking dish on 350 degrees until the dip begins to bubble. While this is baking, hollow out a big hole in the loaf of bread. Cut the top into cubes. Pour the dip into the bowl and bake on a large baking sheet. Sprinkle cheese and buffalo sauce on top. Place bread cubes around the bread bowl and bake until the cubes are slightly toasted.

Serve with Fritos Scoops.

We had lots of relaxing time with all SEVEN dogs.

PS, FINALLY convinced my Sister In Law to jump on Instagram. Let the addiction begin.

We also had a nice little mini Downton Abbey marathon followed by a perfect fire-the first of the season.

And then, we truly outdid ourselves by preparing the most INCREDIBLE meal ever! I picked up steaks from The Dekalb Market and they were TO DIE FOR. Also for dinner: green bean bundles, twice baked potatoes and Oyster & Pearl's Kale Salad.

I woke up Sunday morning just in time to catch the sunrise with the steam on the top of the water. Pure heaven.

And as if we hadn't eaten enough at this point, we whipped up a feast for a breakfast: bacon, eggs, fruit danishes, chocolate croissants, sausage balls, pumpkin pound cake and spicy hashbrowns.

I have a few more photos from the weekend taken from my Dad's new Canon EOS 5D that I'm waiting for him to send. I'll post these later on with, get this, SOME RECIPES!! That camera was so much fun to play with and the quality of the photos is unbelievable.

Have a fabulous Monday!

From Dark to Bright & White

In college, I dreamed of having a big oversized dark wood sleigh bed. When my parents decided I was too old for a full sized bed, they upgraded me to a queen and sprung for the frame as well.  I loved it then and I love it now. But, it is MASSIVE...and my room is ummmm, NOT.  I can barely walk in front of it because it takes up so much more room than a normal bed frame.

Evenutally, this sucker will have to move to the storage unit and be replaced with something more practical. As you can see, I am really a sucker for the bright and white concept. I would love an antique white spindle bed but finding those in queen size is virtually impossible, so I'm leaning towards a look like the one below. Ignore the floral bedding and imagine what I already have. What do you think?

Simple Art Anyone Can Afford

At Pink Flamingo Style, I aim to give you the resources you need to have the wardrobe and home you dream about...ON A BUDGET!  Yes, it is possible.  I'm always looking for ways to cut corners without it showing. All this means is bit more hunting, which is fine by me-that's half the fun!

I just came across this Etsy shop the other day and I just LOVE how simple but chic her pieces are. Blogger, Sarah Swanson has always been a favorite of mine, so when I took a peek at her new pieces, I couldn't be more thrilled to find original works for get this-$10 each! Gallery walls-get ready...you're about to get a new accessory!

Old Navy Does It Again

YOU GUYS!

This Tina hit the serious jackpot this weekend.

At Old Navy.

Yep. I went there.

Found me a pair of distressed skinny jeans for less than $15.  And then I stumbled upon the shoe section.

Now let me just preface this by saying that I typically don't even look twice at Old Navy shoes. They never seem to fit, but the stars were aligned because they had an overwhelming amount of FABULOUS flats to choose from-all that fit comfortably and for INCREDIBLY low prices.

Oh and then, I also scored the puffer vest. Yep, looks JUST like the J.Crew version. I have to say, this one is more flattering and more comfortable. GO get you one before they all sell out! Old Navy Fall Finds

A VERY Special Occasion

I whole heartedly agree with the statement above. Chocolate cake on Mondays because you're happy to see work friends again after a long weekend, a new magazine because it makes you happy, red lipstick at 8am because you know you look really really good with it...all little celebrations I believe everyone should have-whenever they want.

But, dear friends, today is a REALLY special occasion, for me.  If you haven't noticed, this little blog got a little facelift. Take a look at your web address bar. Yep. She has her own official website! When my blog designer emailed me to tell me the big move was complete, I was giddy like a little kid on Christmas morning.

I couldn't be more happy with my blog designer, by the way.  If you're in the market for one, I HIGHLY recommend partnering with Designer Blogs. They did my original blog design and picked up where we left off when I came back months later saying, "Okay, I'm ready to make this a big girl blog."  I love how simple and easy they make blog design. They have it all thought out and I literally pick and choose what I'm ready to do, put it in my basket and check out. After a few emails, the blog is literally updated without me lifting a finger.

PFS is a work in progress, so stay tuned to watch her grow!  Speaking of making changes and growing...

I recently read an article on the importance of bloggers staying engaged with their audience.  I'll be honest and say that I sometimes post things because I get SO excited when I discover something that needs to be shared. But for the most part, I try to really post content that I'm not the only one who cares about.

If you ask me, the blog world isn't just a place to escape to see pretty homes and perfect outfits. Oh no, the blog world is a place that allows you to exchange ideas, stay inspired, meet people who like the same things you do and if you're really lucky-make new friends along the way.

So in the spirit of staying true to the reason I started this blog, I have made a pact with myself and you too. I want to keep this place collaborative. I want to HEAR from you! Anything you have to share-good or bad. Because let's be honest, if all I wanted to do was post pictures of things I like, I would simply use Pinterest. Feedback is what I'm craving here!

So, let's have a practice round. Calling ALL readers: Tell me what you like/dislike about Pink Flamingo Style, what you want to see more or less of, and just anything else you would like to share.

Weekend Recap

Top of the morning to ya!  Hope you all have a wonderful fall weekend. I sure did!

Let's have a peek into my world as of recently.

I've really been focused on editing all the accessories scattered throughout the house. After a while, I have collected more than what I have room for and I realized it was starting to look cluttered. So I gave myself a rule while I went to each table, chair, etc: Take a least two items off. You would think that's an easy assignment, but I assure you it wasn't.  However, I'm glad I started the project. It really has opened my eyes to the beauty of simplicity.  AND I'm really starting to notice how I have a long way to go to streamline the place. We're getting there - slowly, but surely.

Saturday was Madison's birthday-cannot believe that little stinkly wink is NINE YEARS OLD!  Birthdays are a big deal for our dogs. My Grandmomma always remembers and sends a card in advance. That was such a nice surprise to check the mail and find that!
After a friend really started lusting over the oversized grandpa sweaters, I couldn't help but get on board. This beauty is quite the affordable find at Target. Snag it before it is gone. Pair this with black leggings, simple tee and some cognac colored riding boots. You will be so glad you are almost wearing pajamas yet look incredibly put together!
If you don't already know about this beauty secret, the ELF bronzer is seriously THE BEST light coverage bronzer out there! I love the four colors because it also works great for contouring. That is traveling made super easy. I use it over concealer and it gives the perfect glow for those days I don't feel like really doing too much in the makeup department. Best part-its only $3. Yes, THREE DOLLARS at Target! I buy this in bulk.
I've been searching for a good red lipstick. They're so hard to find the right color, believe it or not! A friend suggested this Cover Girl shade (355) and I have to say it is gorgeous!

Let's play a game called, "how hideous does Rachel look when she goes shopping/browsing on Saturday mornings."  Yall, I walked out of the house in yoga pants and a workout shirt with soaking wet hair and no makeup. AKA very scary! But that's the beauty of Saturdays. Who cares?  I popped into Anthropologie since my mom is really beating my door down for my Christmas list and found a few things I am in LOVE with. This Lace Sleeved Scoopneck is like your favorite T-shirt but with lace sleeves. THE perfect shirt for a vest, if you ask me!
Oh yeh, and then there was that moment I had with the Emile Cardigan. Please don't hate me, Natalie. You should know that this is literally the most snuggly sweater you will ever find. Also, totally loving this great button down underneath. Sorry, I couldn't find a link for you, but it is so cute in person.
Also, Anthro is KILLING it in the stationary department. How precious is this little weekly meal planning calendar?

Since Saturday was rainy and chilly, I decided to call it a day on the sofa with my little delinquents and some new reading material. I saw the TV Special on Elizabeth Smart and she was so inspiring in her interview. Anyone that can go through everything that happened to her and still have a happy disposition, THAT is someone we can learn from.

I spent Sunday afternoon with one of my besties at brunch and then a nice stroll down downtown Roswell. Clearly, a brunch calls for a fun outfit.  Still trying to figure out this booties with jeans concept. To cuff or not to cuff? That's the question.  LOVE these distressed jeans from Old Navy,  by the way. They are exactly what I was looking for. #Selfiesarealwaysembarassing
As we were walking past all the gorgeous restaurants with tables on the sidewalk, we bumped into this ridiculously cute dog. He is HUGE and was the sweetest thing EVER!! Clearly we stopped to get hugs from the sweet boy!
And then this happened. We stumbled upon a store that literally is setup like my dream home. Whitewashed paneled walls and ceilings.  Sleek modern furniture with a calm white/neutral palette. I didn't want to leave, honestly.
I mean, am I right or am I right? A girl can dream!

And last, but certainly not least, we celebrated sweet Madison's birthday. She was spoiled with french fries and a new stuffed animal. Everyone meet the new addition to our household, The Possum. She hasn't left his side since she first laid eyes on it.
